2 Year Old Partnerships

Each year Renpher Stable has purchased race horses from the Fasig Tipton Midlantic 2 Year Old in Training sale at Timonium, Maryland.

Renpher Stable has developed an extremely successful formula to help identify potential purchases from a pool of almost 700 horses.

We are proud of our lifetime statistics as it pertains to our 2 year old purchases. Including OUR KHRYSTY, a multiple stakes winner and Graded Stakes Winner, purchased for $25,000 in 2008. Her lifetime earnings exceeded $313k. She was sold, by Renpher Stable, for $600k!!!

Check Stable News for updated lifetime stats of our 2yo purchases!

7 of our first 9 runners broke their maiden within two starts. 6 in Maiden Special Weight company.

3 of our first 9 runners have raced in Stake races! One is a Stakes Winner as a 2yo!

Our average purchase price has been under $20k!

Each year we make every attempt to purchase at least 2 two year olds in training.

Each horse consists of a partnership containing 100 shares, each share representing 1% ownership. At Renpher Stable we require 3% minimum ownership. The cost will vary from partnership to partnership as outlined below.

Renpher Stable, receives 10% of all purse money earned by all of it’s horses, claiming partnerships or 2yo’s. The biggest difference between the two partnerships is the duration from acquisition to next race. For the most part a horse claimed will run back within a relatively short period of time. Therefore the ability to earn purse revenue is drastically sooner than that of a 2 year old in training. Renpher Stable does not mark up claimers because of the ability to earn purse dollars within a reasonable period of time. We do mark up 2 year olds in training. The markup offsets administrative costs incurred which would normally be covered by purse revenue. We have never marked up a 2yo more than 15%.

In a nutshell, there is no way of knowing when a 2 year old in training will make it’s debut. In the past our first starts have varied from as early as August of the 2 year old year, to March of the 3 year old year. We believe the mark up is justified not only because of the lack of purse dollars, but because of our track record. Our formula has helped minimize the risk in buying 2 year olds. While there is no fail safe method to purchase any racehorse, we put a lot of time and effort into the selection process.

You, as a partner, are entitled to participate every step along the way. We encourage you to participate. We conduct multiple conference calls leading up to the sale. They are held on a toll free 800 conference bridge. You can dial in to listen, ask questions, or contribute. Your level of involvement is up to you.

The sale consists of many components. The Under the Tack Show lasts two days, usually the Wednesday and Thursday prior to the sale. Bob O is on hand to watch every workout live. Many partners have enjoyed making the trip to be on hand. All partners are welcome. Aside from watching the workouts we take a close look at every potential purchase. Horses are pulled out of their stalls and viewed up close. Partners learn about conformation first hand alongside our management team.

Nestled between the workouts and the actual auction is The Preakness. Many partners make the trip as Renpher Stable acquires group seating for the event, including The Black Eyed Susan held the Friday before The Preakness.

Monday and Tuesday is the actual auction. Again, many partners opt to be on hand for this. Whether you are there live or watching via the internet, you will know who we are targeting. The whole process is long and exciting. This is your chance to own an unraced 2 year old, selected and managed by Renpher Stable and our amazing track record.

The cost is outlined below, by partnership. It should be noted that while we may base a partnership on a $20,000 budget, the actual cost will vary either up or down. In the past we established every partnership at $20,000. Our actual purchase prices have been anywhere between $15k and $25k. We try to be as close to the budgetary number as possible but this is an auction. Prices will vary. If the horse is purchased for more than the budget, every partner will be asked for the balance after the sale. If the horse is purchased for less than the base price, the difference will remain in your account to be applied towards future expenses.
